As with all insulations, fiberglass works by trapping air. However, fiberglass by itself will only work as a filter since air will freely move through it. So it is essential for fiberglass installations that the fiberglass be aligned & sealed on all 6 sides with proper building materials that are considered air barriers (plywood, drywall, top & bottom plate). Once it is installed in this air sealed cavity, the cost savings & effectiveness of fiberglass can be realized.
